Fuerteventura - The Undiscovered Gem of the Canary Islands

Fuerteventura - blessed with over 150 beaches - is one of the least spoiled and least discovered of the Canary Islands.

With a dramatic volcanic landscape, little rainfall and warm temperatures throughout the year, the unique landscape of desert and much of the island are protected parks.

Visit Fuerteventura and you are taking a step back to the way in which to live in Spain was perhaps 30 years ago - no high-rise buildings and a relaxed and sweet life, clean streetsand beaches.

Unlike its more touristic and built-neighbors of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura is a great place to come to unplug, relax and take a step back in time. No dusk to dawn open air discos, no Club 18-30 ...

The island, the closest of the Canary Islands in Africa, the agony of the beaches - some are secluded coves and small fishing villages, others have spread the little dirt roads - but most are accessible from major roads.

Not thatThe streets are similar to those found on the Spanish mainland or the United Kingdom. Yes, they are well maintained and mostly straight, but the lack of transport is the first thing you notice. And the lack of traffic lights. So far I have found on the island - and that never worked!

Travelling is easy ... Buses and ferries are cheap, run time and integrate with each other, which makes, say, Caleta de Fuste Corralejo is easily possible.

Caleta de Fuste is in fact an up-and-comingUse tailored for families. You will find restaurants of all nationalities to suit every taste and every budget.

There are shops and bars where you can sip a drink and watch the world go. find fun - everything from live bands and cabaret to karaoke, quizzes, bingo - but not like "In Your Face" as Benidorm and the Costa del Sol There are also places open in the morning - but not disturbed if you want onenight.Even quiet airport here turns the runway lights and freezing at night!

Caleta has a golden sandy beach form a horseshoe bay. The gently sloping beach and 'very safe for bathing and this beach head for most holidaymakers. But there is a South Beach - reclaimed from the sea and gardens in small bays, dotted with small circular brick structures to provide a bit 'more privacy.

Fuerteventura (Fuerte - strong Ventura -Happiness) has been forgotten has been described as "the land at that time. It 's the second largest of the Canary Islands come here and really like a step back in time! Many people mistakenly believe the island's name means" strong wind " and although it is often a constant pleasant breeze, this is usually a welcome relief that the high temperatures make it a pleasure.

And 'Fuerteventura also a paradise for watersports - windsurfing, surfing and kite surfingare held throughout the island.

Landing at the airport, is the first thing you did by Stark, lunar landscape. But to explore beyond, and have large sweeping sand dunes, lagoons, small fishing villages and isolated sandy bays.

Caleta de Fuste is an ideal base for exploring this island halfway between north and south.

Corralejo in the north, where the apartments first appeared many years ago. Well, it's a busy place andHoliday industry has reduced so great.

Approaching Corralejo the landscape gives way to immense shimmering sand dunes, miles of the Sahara in Morocco recalled, just 60 miles to the east. The famous dunes are now a protected national park.

Corralejo town is still something of the charm of earlier times took place mainly around the old port. From here you can enjoy spectacular views of Lanzarote and Isla de Lobos - deserves a visit when you are tryingPace of life in Fuerteventura a bit 'too!

Even in the north of the island is El Cotillo, a paradise for surfers. This wonderful relaxed village has some great beaches, lagoons and several interesting restaurants and bars. As we head into the country you are in front of the new port. On the left are large sandy beaches and lagoons of the law.

On the left side of the village is the Fortaleza of Toston, a round stone fort built to defend against pirates in 1790.

TheThe beaches for water sports and many experienced surfers head to the sandy beaches of El Cotillo and Corralejo done. The lagoon is much more quiet and peaceful - pristine beaches with crystal clear water.

The fishing village is a shrine to the Virgin de Buen Viaje (good trip) and to see these words are painted on the cliffs overlooking the old harbor.

The entry of Caleta de Fuste, in the south are the beaches of Jandia Peninsula, almost20 km from broad white beaches of some large 1kms.

The vast area includes golden white beaches that range from pretty coves of Costa Calma guaranteed low cliffs at the end of huge sand dunes, desert areas, as and lagoons. It also includes the beach immortalized on thousands of postcards. The Playa de Sotavento is probably one of the most photographed beaches in Europe. There is also a place where surfers pass. The PWA World Windsurf speed and slalom event draws the best surfers eachYears and kite surfing championship was launched in 2005.

At the southern peninsula of Jandia Morro Jable is another place with golden beaches and one that is developed from the popular German travel company. So loved that there are many road signs in Spanish and German.

With so many beaches, nude is not a surprise, loved the island. It would be impossible to list them all here, but it is a very good guide to the best beaches -, and the best naturist beaches - holiday island of Fuerteventura Guide Web site at http://www.geocities.com/ _fuerteventura vacation [/]

But Fuerteventura is not just beaches. It is also sightseeing. One of the most beautiful island is the wreck of the American star - a huge liner that ran aground in a deserted bay years a few years ago in mysterious circumstances.

As this huge ship - once the largest of hisclass came into the world - the rest is a different story, and controversial, but the sight of this huge wreck is a few meters from shore in a deserted bay, just outside of Ajuy is a very worrying and disturbing sight.

It is not easy to find, but once again leaves _Fuerteventura page has instructions.

From there, take the mountain road to Betancuria - former capital of the 'island - and you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view, and the city itself isworth a few hours

Or try to visit Cofete - difficult to achieve, but the beach is about 5 km, is white and sandy and offers plenty of space and is located in the southern tip Cofete village - isolated and used mainly as a weekend.

Giniginamar is ideal if you are looking for rest and recuperation. The beach surrounded by palm trees, is made of black volcanic sand and the village itself you can find local and tapas on the outskirts, some rather uniqueProperties.

Arts and crafts are well supplied - Fuerteventura is known as "Island of the sculptures" for nothing! On almost every roundabout on the island, is a sculpture in any form!

There are a number of museums - the handicraft center of Antigua, which is based on a restored mill and the cultural center La Olivia, who has beautiful gardens and has many works by the artist Alberto Manrique Canary. The Alcogida O,a living museum based on a village that shows the Canary Islands so lived years ago.

There are many other parts of Fuerteventura that lie hidden from the mass tourism market - long may it remain so!
